HERE'S 3 CHORDS #1
May 2013
*****
The bright pink covers screams
THE
PUKES
, and it is totally from that zany
crew of punks who take up the ukulele
to play, have fun and beam out their
unique sound to punks all over the
world. Art council funded and don't it
make a difference to the print job and
quality of paper this zine is printed on!
And it all comes with a fantastic eye
catching layout. Although written and
designed by
the Pukes they literally
encourage punks from all walks of life
to take up this novel form of
expression and make the ukulele punk.
There's chord diagrams, lyrics, and
strumming sequences lovingly drawn
out for potential beginners. We also
get seasoned Uke punks telling us how
they got into this new phenomenon.
Like
Uke Punk a northern trio of Uke
players,
Gus And Fin a Glaswegian
punk duo who do some fantastic
covers check em out on youtube or
solo artist
Itch. One thing you notice
about the Uke fraternity is its open to
anyone, young and old and total
novices there doesn't seem to be no
ego's involved. And whats predominant
is they all got a sense of yuma!!!
Which I like a lot. Its not just a UK thing
either, we get punk cabaret specialist
the highly renowned
Amanda Palmer
with her Uke Anthem and even
Marjinal street punks from Indonesia
playing them. The only thing missing
was where you buy em, or how much
they cost but they're usually only about
£20 for cheap beginners which is dirt
cheap in anyone's books. This zine is
packed full of useful info displayed in
an attractive format. Only one issue so
far, but since this was released
the
Pukes
have toured and released an
album, so a new issue might be
imminent. So if you fancy watching or
hearing a gang of females, some of em
punk and even the odd lucky male
thrown into the mix doing your
favourite punk covers, then check out
this bunch who make covers a whole
new ball game reinvented with that
Formby twang. You can check out
the
Pukes
current state of play at this
address. Cheers to Paul K for passing
this one on.
