Lydia Lunch Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, Beiruit Slump, 8 Eyed Spy, Harry Crews etc. Lydia Lunch the New Jersey vamp immortalised in the Dead Boys song 'I need Lunch' began her own stage career as co founder and screamer for the short lived but brilliant Teenage Jesus And The Jerks back in 1976. A band who played 10 minute sets of brutal Anti-music and kicked off her career as a wordsmith on the darker side of New York life. New York's 'No Wave' was The Jerks tag, and they become the antithesis to the Blondie New Wave pop punk set. Lydia now in her late 50's went on to form less punk orientated outfits like the abrasive Eight Eyed Spy, Harry Crews etc, but still managed to keep on the edge of what was classed as normality. She has written numerous books that featuring her satanic prose, done countless collaborations and even gone on film giving Clint Ruin a blow job and all for her art. These days she's now a cult figure on the underground sex/gore/noise circuit doing spoken word performances. As well as designing art installations and making a noise she still found time to become one of the worlds leading Entymologists and is pictured here taking one of her specimens, a pet Tarantula called 'Oscar' for a walk back in the late 70's. Background image is from the same shoot but with a subtle crucifixtion picture hanging on the wall behind her. |
