BARBED WIRE HALO
New York punk poetess Annie Bandez previously fronted the
notorious Assexuals making their debut at Maxs Kansas City
in 1977. She later shipped out to England after a chance
meeting with Crass's Steve Ignorant in New York in 1978 and
later on teamed up with Crass back in the UK living, touring
and fighting with 'em through the early 80s. Annie was
rumoured to engage in blazing physical rows with Mr Ignorant
which usually ended in pitched battles so much for making love
not war. I remember seeing her support Crass in Birmingham
in '81 with poetry and high drama blasted out in front of a
taped barrage, as a consistent shower of gob and abuse
rained down upon her lol. She was clearly anxious but
consistently got a reaction good but mostly bad! She released
the 'Barbe Wire Halo' 45 on Crass records in 1981 and wrote
a couple of volumes of prose. Amidst all this pretty Annie was
romantically linked with chief Anarcho antagonist Wattie
Buchan out the Exploited and even performed together at the
100 club in '83 when Crass and the Exploited headlined. But
by the late 80's Annie was veering her cardinal knowledge
towards techno sound tracks and signed to One Little Indian.
Even top brass acts like Sinatra and Prince were rumoured to
be interested in collaborations, but she did turn down a nude
centrefold. She has since become a painter, poet, writer,
performing and recording artist, pastor and stage actor. She
has continues to release music right up till 2016.
