WARDOUR STREET, W1 ,
A group of Mohicanned punks poncing 10p's from passers by.
Sar (19) and Teed (18), the pair on the right
in the photos, did the talking.
Sar is from Portsmouth, Teed from Glasgow. We've been here about six months. We're both unemployed. Who wants to work for £50 a week? There's lots of gigs here and it's easy to ponce. We can't even sign on as we've got no fixed abode. In London we go the 100 Club or the Lyceum for gigs. We're poncing £6 right now
so three of us can go tonight. Bands we like are Crass, Dead Kennedys, Exploited, Rigor Mortis and Anti Pasti. We both got into punk in the last two years. A year ago it was all happening, it was just underground. Being a punk doesn't mean being offensive anymore. People aren't offended; they just look at you and think you're another of London's weirdos.
Sar: My hair took about six months to get this long. Look, I just shaved the rest of it today. Isn't it smooth? I'll be looking like this until I'm 22 and then I'll take up motherhood. I'll be looking just the same this time next year. This time in five years? I'll be dead. We do quite a lot of glue. It's nice and it's cheap. It's so boring just hanging about. Glue livens up the imagination.
