? EFFERVESCENT ? SAD SALLY Queens Hall, Nuneaton, UK. Saturday 13th July Good mate of Mine Dude hits 50 and puts on a few bands down the Queens Hall. Of the the bands what were playing some dropped out and others filled in, but the Guitar Gangsters played and they went down a storm, shame it was a very poor turnout. I was well wasted so you gotta bare with me on this review, coz that fucking mini heat wave, I think got the better of me. Anybody who knows Dude knows he's a great bloke, Punk from the day it was born, been around a long, long time, been here and done that. Amongst other stuff he's been a roadie/driver for the likes of GBH and a some-what manager of sorts to the up and coming Punk bands around Nuneaton. As you would say fingers in lots a pies. So you would think the be all and end all of Nuneaton would grace the night, but like I said theres only about 50 or so people turned out. But fuck it! Those that made their way there are in for a blinding set by the Guitar Gangsters who soldier on despite the poor show of up right members bouncing about in this suffocating heat (Cue Discharge). What I do recall Sad Sally local lads from my neck of the woods kicked off the night and for some reason sounded like Yanks. Great vocals and tight set, but I got the feel of an English Green Day style kind of vibe. Which if you like that kind of thing is great. But for me...don't imitate just be what you are. But in all fairness they're well worth a second viewing just to see if that little niggle fucks off and I enjoy their pleasant sound. This is the point when I'm unsure who's on stage playing next? And Dudes that pissed he ain't got clue (Lurkers). But whoever it was, I recall as not worth storming me brain cells and banging hangover to find out, sorry if this was your band, you were wonderful, amazing you blew me away (ha! ha!). Now Effervescent I did recall. And from what was said, had not done anything in over and year. So they only did a few numbers but its like water off a ducks back these days. Great to see live and hope that stick at it. I'm sure there big comeback is only around the corner. So some fucks take note and sign the boys before its too late! I did miss their 'Andy Williams Show Tune', which always went down well. Next on the bill I'm unsure? But the lad on vocals seems a little strange to say the least! (Ha! that's something coming from Sid - PDC) but he's in his own little world, kid in a bubble I shit you not. He's got the Dickies come Mental Patient thing going on, great but strange! And last up were the Guitar Gangsters old mates of Dudes as I recall. They played his 30th Birthday Bash. And as you know went down a storm tonight. I don't know if its harder playing to a packed house or just a handful of people? But I suppose in this business you make the most of whats in front of you. And that's it. Till Dude turns 51, what we got in-store next year, just wait and see! HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU OLD PUNK ROCKER..... WORDS AND PHOTOS - Sid (Nuneaton) 14th July 2013 |
