SPEAR OF DESTINY Queens Hall, Nuneaton, UK. Thursday 23rd May It's funny how something unrelated can change your mind into doing something. The day after the night before and Saturday here very hung over after having a surprisingly, such a great night! So let me take you back to where this all began. Bored out me brains surfing facebook and getting depressed at the story lines unfolding about the brutal murder of a soldier in Woolwich by extremist Muslims. Thinking human nature in some individuals is nothing more than barbaric scum! No religion on earth worth its salt could call this kind of act justified. And if you think so, then you fail that Religion and your Profit or God you worship. Anyway between all the post about the murder I spot a post for the Spear of Destiny gig at the Queens Hall, Nuneaton. So in need of some fun I head out the door early to make sure I can get a ticket. No, no worries on that score as there are plenty still left on sale. So I grab a pint or two while I wait and sit at the bar. No sooner had I sat down, me freak magnet sets in, because the Muppet that sits next to me beats all in the how dumb you can be in the bellend Olympics. But he’s soon on his way and I’m back to having a pint in peace. Time seems to pass by quick and the doors to the gig open. No support band tonight so its another wait before Spear of Destiny finally take to the stage. The hall fills up not as much as the sardine effect they had at the Stiff Little Fingers gig a couple of months back (see S.L.F. review elsewhere om this site - PDC), but a good turn out all the same. Kirk's filled out a bit over the years as this chubby little fellow hits the stage with the band. Their sound is tight and the vocals are as clear as anything that has played on this stage. I can honestly say I never really been a great fan of Theatre of Hate (sacre bleur - PDC) but I did like a hand full of Spear of Destiny songs. Saying that 'Westworld' I did like by Theatre of Hate, but Spear Of Destiny had a few killer songs too like, 'Mickey', 'Never Take Me Alive' and 'Liberator' so I’m a happy bunny tonight, as they sang them all. However as soon as it's started its all over and everybody is filing out on their merry way home. I Grab a couple of pictures and set off on my way for a long wobble home, stopping off to grab a Kebab forgetting I’m wearing my 'Destroy' shirt with the Big Swastika logo on it. Hope they never got the wrong idea in the Kebab Shop as I stumble me steps home with hot spicy sauce dripping off me chin. I quietly giggle to myself of what a great night can be had on the spur of a moment. WORDS AND PHOTOS - Sid (Nuneaton) 24th May 2013 |
