THE DYE IS CAST

Honey Bane had grown up by now she had shook off her punk roots and gone for a more commercial teeny bopper market. This publicity shot is from a more raunchy photo shoot that appeared on the back page of Smash Hits March 5th 1981. Taken during the lets just say 'pop era' of Honey Banes music career, when she was signed by Zonophone and had Jimmy Pursey of Sham 69 producing her. It did get her on Top of the pops and in the UK Top 30 with 'Turn Me On Turn Me Off' 45 during this period, so check out the video on TOTP's. But It's hard to believe Jimmy Pursey could've produced something like this after songs like 'Song Of The Streets' only 3 years earlier. But lo and behold he actually put out stuff of this ilk himself, but with way less success during his mid 80's solo career, before revamping Sham in the 90's.

Some of Honey's punk roots were still showing as she appeared on the front of Record Mirror February 7th 1981 a month previous, decked out in Vivienne Westwood gear, complete with an 'Anarchist Punk Gang' shirt which give a nod back to her earlier anarcho/punk connections.
