LOWER CLASS BRATS
Live!!! Loud and Out of Tune DVD/CD
(TKO Records)
This is the other half of this duel 'Live And Out Of Tune' Lower Class
Brat experience on this generous two disc DVD/CD TKO release. For
the full audio rundown which features a 17 track set (see this review).
The DVD disc however just nails it as my favoured choice of the 2 discs
and features a live 13 track set from the Lower Class Brats El Corazon
gig in Seattle filmed on May 4th 2005. It's all shot with a single camera
but it certainly don't spoil the fun as its done professionally with some
good zoom ins on the action on stage and the sound is good too. The
Brats perform in their by now friendly but highly entertaining way as
stage divers fall from the sky, Bones smirks, Marty staggers and Evo
looks mean as a long queue of studded revellers wait their turn to
invade the stage. If you were there then you'll fucking love this film as
most of the audience feature heavily throughout the performance. If you
were not there, then sit back and grab a can coz your in for a treat as
you savour a punk band in their prime sending shy kids into a frenzy, fat
kids into space and spiky tops into freefall. This footage illustrates how
much the audience become the bands 5th member at Lower Class
Brats gigs. Each and everyone of 'em know all the words to every tune!
This is an intimate setting with no heavy bouncers in the way as all the
kids without exception get to sing along with their favourite stick insect.
Y'know, the one with the wicked gleam in his eye. Bones has the
mannerisms of a modern day Johnny Rotten in bowler hat but without
the snidey attitude. Highlights of a set of many has to be the choice cover of the Ramones 'Beat On A Brat' which was positively written with this band in
mind. They also give us full on original versions of 'Start The Night', 'Golden Boy', 'Addicted To Oi!', 'Ultra Violence' and of course 'Who Writes The
Rules'. But whats really intriguing about this DVD are the bonus features that have some top of the range video footage of the band in action at LA's
Allen theatre where you can almost smell the burning fuse as a youth explosion erupts all around. This particular slice of celluloid really captures the 'in
your face' power this band creates on stage. And alongside some funny on the road perspectives, loads of Lower Class Brat army shots and a surreal
moment with singer Bones Delarge jiving round a diner with some old lady makes for a really good movie trailer edited perfectly for what looks set to be
a stylish new film about the band called 'This Is Real'. Its set for release sometime later this year. And if that ain't all, we also get the entertaining video
of 'Just Like Clockwork' too. You can tell from all this footage how much a band like the Brats mean to the kids who buy their records. And none of its
manufactured! Having that respect from a generation who would usually piss on anyone over 21 it must be great inspiration for a band who started up
from nowhere to carry on and become one of the most popular street punk bands in the US today. Get this coz it looks set to become a must have if
your a Lower Class Brat like most of us are. Or even if you ain't you will be once you've seen this. Not to be missed!
