Adverts - One Chord Wonders 1977 (DC Collection)
THE ADVERTS were a lot more than one chord wonders and will always be a big favourite for me, being the first punk band I ever seen in the flesh.
They're without a doubt one of the best punk bands I've seen in 40 years. They hit a true peak of their greatness with classics like 'Gary Gilmore Eyes' and 'No Time To Be 21'. However the punk bubble burst by '79 after more tours of toilets. They're pictured here at the very start of their career in January 1977 outside the Roxy Club, London sat amongst the garbage.
Photographed by Harry T. Murlowski.

Singer TV Smith went onto carve out a career right up to the present day entertaining audiences with his other bands TV Smiths Explorers and Cheap before concentrating on his troupador one man accoustic shows and is an exceptional songsmith. But on occasion will put together the Bored teenagers backing band to punch out those early Adverts classics which I highly recommend you catch!
Gaye having survived being one of punks few outright sex symbols now creates collage artwork.
