The Doll - 1977 (DC Collection)
Beggars can't be choosers....
1977 Beggars Banquet signings The Doll were one of those bands that came within a whisker. They were fronted by Catwoman (Batman TV Series) lookalike Marion Valentino. Although she was also called 'Babydoll' and 'Marion Valentine' in her later years. Her real name was Marion Sauva. I first heard them on the 'Streets' compilation with by far their best track the snotty 'Trash', which was so good the label released it on the b side of their debut single 'Tango On My Heart' in 1978. But we had to wait till '79 before a follow up and they gave us their most commercial 45 'Desire Me'  which culminated with a brief hit in the 1978 UK charts. 'Desire Me' also scored them an appearance on Top Of The Pops. However half the band split when the follow up singles failed to sell. They eventually got a new line-up but Marion broke up the band in 1980 and was never seen again. But that leopard skin guitar was a true one off! For the full Doll discography go HERE!
